How to choose a Theoretical Framework

Step #1 Understand What it is

How would our view of the results change if we viewed this from ...

• Feminist Lens
• Minority Discourse Lens / Critical Race Theory 
• All Quadrants All Levels (AQAL) Lens
• Asking questions using the lens we wear
• Looking at Data through the lens

Study:- Leadership of CEOs

Theoretical Framework (Lens):- Bass's "Full Range of Leadership Model"

Output:- Transformational, Transactional, Laissez-Faire

Study:- Leadership of CEOs

Theoretical Framework (Lens):- Delgado's "Critical Race Theory"

Output:- Storytelling, White Privilege, Microaggression 

Study:- Leadership of CEOs

Theoretical Framework (Lens):- Wilber's "AQAL Theory"

Output:- I, It, We, Its

Step #2 Engage in a True Literature Review 

• Do lots of reading, gathering 25 Quotes (at least) every week (5 Quotes X 5 Sources) and keeping those in Literature Matrix
• What theoretical framework are mentioned in the research?
• Pay special Attention.

Step #3 Make a List 

• Make a list of all the theoretical frameworks that are mentioned
• Make sure you keep a list of the dates they are made. 
• Name the chief author who is known for that framework at that point in time.

Step #4 Examine Merits of Each 

• Each Theoretical Framework has a different way of viewing the world.
• Which one speaks to you?
• Which one is the newest?
• Which one is the most widely used?
• Which deter from the usual way of looking at this issue?
• Which are visual in nature? If you can' visual or draw it, don't select it.

Step #5 Choose One

• Has clearly defined terms
• Extensively used in research
• Has a visual / drawn component (like a picture of the model)
• Can be complex if you want it to be or exceedingly simple when you need it to be
• Speaks to your worldview
• Hopefully has a book written by a major author associated with it. 

Step #6 Buy - Read

• Five Major Books on this Theoretical Framework
• Read them and answer the following

1. In one sentence, how does this framework see the world?
2. How would you draw this framework?
3. List the specific part of this framework?
4. Define each part with a citation
5. How is this theoretical framework applied to research? Survey Instrument? Questions?

Topics - Know your topic well. Narrow down to a specific level with 4W. Start with your passion. 

Frameworks - Lens you use to view your research topic. Have a full range of questions to ask.

1) Visual / Model / Drawn of how things work

2) It needs to have well-organised, well-developed, over time 

3) Need to go to the books 

Do Block Hours 6-8 hours in one area 

What do women really want ? - A story to ponder

This is a very interesting story.

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighbouring kingdom.

The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.

The question was:
What do women really want?

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man. And to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end.

He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the princess, the priests, the wise men, and even the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer.

Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would have the answer. But the price would be high as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but first he would have to agree to her price.

The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table, and Arthur's closest friend. Young Arthur was horrified.

She was hunch-backed and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc.

He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life. He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden.

But Lancelot, having learnt of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life. And the reservation of the Round Table. Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered.

Arthur's question thus:
"What does a woman really want?"

She said, "A woman wants to be in charge of her own life."

Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth, and that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it was. The neighbouring monarch granted Arthur his freedom. And Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.

The honeymoon hour approached and, Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him.

The most beautiful woman he had ever seen was sitting by the bed.

The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened. The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, she would henceforth become her horrible and deformed self only half the time, and be the beautiful maiden the other half.

"Which would you prefer?" She asked him. "BEAUTIFUL during the DAY... OR at NIGHT?"

Lancelot pondered the predicament.

During the day, he could have a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch!

OR,

would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day? But by night a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous moments with?

And Lancelot's choice is given below...

Knowing the answer the witch gave to Arthur for his question, Sir Lancelot said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself.

Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time, because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life.

Now, what is the moral to this

The moral is...

1. There is 'witch' in every woman, no matter how beautiful she is. It's how a man manages it

2. If you let a woman decide on her own she gives u d best. but if u force her with ur decisions she becomes a witch.

So, be careful how you treat a woman😊

Do you remember as a child taking play dough (or clay) in your hands and molding it into a masterpiece? Do you remember the feeling of pride that you felt as you looked at your finished masterpiece? In graduate school, you have the opportunity to use words to create masterpieces in which you can also feel a sense of pride and experience success. However, before creating a successful masterpiece, you need to understand how to construct your masterpiece in style (APA style, that is). The purpose of this lesson is to assist you in understanding how to write a paper in APA style.

Objectives

When you are finished with this lesson, you should:

• Understand the importance of editorial styles
• Know how to configure your word processor for an APA-style manuscript
• Understand the organization and parts of an APA-style manuscript
• Be able to construct complete sentences and use sentence variety to increase the quality of your writing
• Be able to provide an orderly presentation of ideas through properly structured paragraphs
• Understand  and be able to apply the basic punctuation and grammar rules outlined in the APA Publication Manual  
• Understand and correctly use the basics of APA writing and editorial style
